Meet Amanda Thooft, MSW, LICSW, LCSW
I’m here to offer you a space to discover your authentic self!
I believe therapy should be a collaboration.
YOU’VE FOUND THE RIGHT PLACE TO RECEIVE SUPPORT.
Amanda is a licensed independent clinical social worker who began her career as a therapist in 2007. She earned both her bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN, and is currently working towards her doctorate at St. Thomas, with an expected graduation in May 2026.
Amanda works with individuals and couples aged 18 and older, from all identities and backgrounds. Her clinical interests include anxiety, depression, relationship issues, grief, life transitions, couples therapy, and family of origin issues.
As adults, we assume we should know who we truly are, but that’s not always the case. Amanda will offer you a place where you can show up, reconnect with, and explore your true, genuine self. Not just the happy parts but also the parts you may have felt shame or embarrassment about. The more you know and understand yourself, the more satisfied you can be in your life.
When she's not providing therapy, Amanda is a mom to four active kids plus Marvel (their beloved puppy) and a partner to her husband, with whom she has been married to for over 20 years! She enjoys staying active but also treasures relaxing under a blanket with a good book.
My style
I believe in both supporting you and challenging you to take a look at your blindspots.
I often remind clients that there is no checklist to follow in order to reach our most authentic selves—it's a lifelong journey of self-discovery. This process can be both freeing and frustrating! I, too, am on my own path of growth, striving to become the truest version of myself. As a fellow human, I have my own weaknesses, blind spots, and vulnerabilities. Clients have shared how much they appreciate (when appropriate) I self-disclose to help them feel less alone.
My approach is direct and engaging. I don't just listen and nod while clients vent; I actively participate by asking questions, clarifying their points, identifying disruptive patterns, challenging blind spots, and offering support along the way.
My guiding principles
Empathy
I create a safe and supportive environment where clients feel understood and valued.
Support
I provide an encouraging and nonjudgmental space where clients can explore challenges and work toward growth and healing.
Compassion
I approach clients with genuine care, understanding, and a desire to alleviate their suffering.
Challenge
I gently encourage clients to confront difficult truths, explore blind spots, and push beyond their comfort zones to foster meaningful growth and change.
